Gonna keep this going with another big song from the past few months, and still one of the top club songs out. Hence, there’s obviously a good amount of remixes here. (Ten in the official Remix Pack alone!) Today I’m gonna discuss the four that I play in my sets. Now it’s important to understand who this site is for. For those of you who have been visiting since Day 1, you have an idea, and you know it’s probably changed a bit to keep up with the times. While we try to appeal to all DJs here, we tend to mostly focus on “Open Format/Bottle Service” type sets. Again, that doesn’t mean we’re trying to ignore a lot of our fan base. We usually talk about when is the right time to play most mixes, and what type of venue they are suited for. Plus, as the music climate’s changed (Britney using dubstep, Black Eyed Peas using Dutch House, etc.) it seems as if many of the songs played at Bottle Service clubs can also be played in most other situations. I really wanted to mention that here because that really explains why I picked the four mixes I did. A lot of the official label mixes were a bit too hard or didn’t have enough of the original words (simply put…were better suited for the major House DJs to play at festivals) With that said, here’s four that I thought were best suited for where I play and hopefully where you guys/girls play as well.
1) Icona Pop – I Love It (Sick Individuals Remix)
This is the one that I’m pretty sure most of you know about and have been playing. It came out in the original batch of label mixes and it really stuck out since it was pretty obvious it was the most playable for a lot of DJs. Sick Individuals created an absolute banger that still kept in enough of the original so the girls could sing along, yet didn’t turn them off by going too crazy on the drop. It definitely is hard Electro and made for the club, but if you were to listen to some of the mixes not mentioned here, you’d understand what I was talking about before. The intro and breaks are a bit drawn out for some clubs, so I made my own edit taking 16 Bars out from a few spots. That’s just my own preference though, really hard to complain about this one.
2) Icona Pop – I Love It (Fukkk Offf Remix)
This is also great production, but just a bit harder than the Sick Individuals version. When the time came where I needed a new mix to switch up my sets with, I was pretty happy to find this. Fukkk Offf sets the tone from the get go here letting you know this is hardcore/primetime ready. It also features a cool half-time break towards the end that likely offers a nice change of pace from whichever mix you’ve been playing before this.
3) Icona Pop – I Love It (Hyper Crush Remix)
Even if you haven’t played this version yet, you should be very glad Hyper Crush made it. Chances are, once this song falls from it’s peak, this will be in a lot of DJs “Opening” crates. And I’m not saying that to sell this remix short at all. I really like the direction they took it in and it’s really a breath of fresh air from most of the alternatives. Hyper Crush has made plenty of club bangers, but I’m guessing they made this more for the pool parties/BBQs/and lounges rather than for the packed clubs where people wanna fist pump. And with that said, you should be really happy to have this in your crates!
4) Icona Pop – I Love It (Tiesto Club Life Remix)
I almost forgot to include this Tiesto remix, but I’m glad I didn’t because I feel this serves a different purpose than the others. If I wanna smash them with “I Love It” primetime, I’m always grabbing the Sick Individuals or Fukkk Off remix, but when it comes to end of the night and I’m in Progressive House mode, this is the one I want. Personally, at the moment, I like to end the night with mixes that feel “EPIC” as opposed to “mellow” if that makes sense at all. This one comes in real hard, but the drop is equally “feel good” as it is “fist pump”. Listen below to hopefully understand what I mean.
