The word “bootleg” has never been clearly defined. Laidback Luke was adamant that a “bootleg” was any remix (added synths and drums) that wasn’t official (put out by the label)….but we all know very few people used that definition. Most people’s idea of a bootleg was when you simply blend two or more songs together, or when you give a track a drop from another track. Since we do get a lot of stuff sent here, I feel like I have a pretty good idea of how most people use the word. Well just recently, it seems there’s been a big shake up in how people are labeling their tracks. I’m starting to see a lot of tracks that would have previously been called bootlegs now being titled as “Edits”. I’m not sure where or why this started, but I feel like this is gonna really confuse a lot of people (me). I think I’d actually pay money for God to drop a remix title rulebook down here.
